Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, is a modern city with a population of over 5 million, maintaining traces of civilizations dating back to the Bronze Age, to the Hitties, Phrygians, Lydians and Persians. Ankara is a center for opera, ballet, jazz and modern dance as well as the home of the Turkish Parliament, ministries, foreign embassies, and nine universities. Its location offers easy access to the city's parks, shopping areas, cultural activities, museums, and entertainment venues, with Istanbul only 5 hours away by bus. Its climate has the most rainfall in October-November and April-May and snow is common between the end of November until the end of March with annual temperatures that vary from 0 to 25°C.

Bilkent University is recognized and ranked worldwide as a premier institution of higher education in Turkey. It is a bilingual university with courses taught in Turkish and English. The 1,200 acre university campus is located 12 kilometers from the city center and is a hub for academic, social, and cultural activity. The university has 13,000 students seeking degrees in 29 bachelor's, and 51 graduate programs in a variety of fields. Bilkent University welcomes international exchange students from over 64 countries. Bilkent University offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. There are 9 faculties, allowing University at Buffalo students to take courses in the following majors:

Bilkent University offers the majority of their courses in English with the exception of foreign language courses. Exchange students take courses alongside their Bilkent University counterparts and are free to choose from all available courses including Turkish language courses. In general, five courses per semester is a normal workload at Bilkent University.
Bilkent University offers free on-campus accommodation for incoming exchange students. Subject to availability, this offer is valid for double rooms at Bilkent's students dormitories. Students are expected to file their requests before the relevant deadline. Allocations are on a first come first serve basis. Room type may differ based on availability. Students who want to stay in a single room can book a single room paying the difference.

Exchange students are guaranteed housing in one of Bilkent University's 26 on-campus residence halls, located on the Main and East Campuses, which house 4,000 Turkish and international students. Free shuttles are provided for transportation within Bilkent University and to/from Ankara.
