Program Description:

Baltic States: Business at the Crossroads of the European Union and Eurasia

Tallinn, Estonia
Vilnius, Lithuania
The 3 Baltic States: Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania are tiny but diverse. You need only look at the three capitals to discover the 3 unique yet compelling cultures: chic art-nouveau Riga, majestically medieval Tallinn, and flamboyantly baroque Vilnius. The Baltic States are members of both the European Union and NATO and are strategically located between Sweden and Russia.
In today’s global economy, it is important for students to expand their horizons to include international perspectives. “Baltic States: Business at the Crossroads of EU and Eurasia” provides students with a unique interdisciplinary and cross-cultural experience. In addition to the joy of international travel, students will gain knowledge that will be useful throughout their careers. Students will gain an awareness and understanding of the history, the people and the business climate of the three Baltic States and how these have played important roles in making the area a hotbed for innovation.  Specifically. students will explore the various aspects of successfully starting, growing, managing, and financing a manufacturing or service company in the region.
Join us in June 2018 and earn 3 credits for the MGG200, which will provide exposure to European Union business practices through an intensive two-week visit to Riga, Latvia, with trips to neighboring Tallinn, Estonia and Vilnius, Lithuania included. Conducted in partnership with the Riga Business School (RBS), this experience consists of visits to local and regional businesses, government offices and other institutions. In addition, there will be cultural experiences and classroom sessions held along with a group of students currently enrolled in the RBS Bachelor of Business Administration.
The experience affords students the opportunity to experience life in a vibrant city, Riga, Latvia and surrounding areas, as they learn about the history, culture, and politics surrounding business in the Baltic States. This study abroad opportunity allows students to benefit from the carefully constructed itinerary developed by the Riga Business School (RBS) and while the program is jam-packed, it also earmarks free time for students to relax and enjoy the area on their own.
While in Riga, Latvia you will stay in the heart of Riga! "Art Hotel Laine" is located in the Art Nouveau building, which was built in 1912. Elements of this style are visible in the facade and interior. As Latvia’s cultural heritage is highly appreciated - special care is given to the building's architectural style preservation.  The hotel provides a daily breakfast, wi-fi in public areas, a restaurant, room service, and is adjacent to the Riga Business School and close to other city sites of interest. The housing costs are included in the program fee.
Open to students at all levels of experience. There is no pre-requisite for this course. Applications are especially welcome from sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students from the School of Management, including International Business and Accounting, in good academic standing with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. Applicants are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are encouraged to apply early, as enrollment is limited.
