Program Description:

Bauhaus University Weimar

Buildings     Students     Landscape
With its parks, gardens, castles, and poets’ homes, Weimar has inherited a rich history and culture. Located in the federal state of Thuringia, Germany, the city was a focal point of the German Enlightenment and home of the leading characters of the literary genre of Weimar Classicism, Goethe and Schiller. You’ll see reminders of them wherever you go as statues, on commemorative plaques, plus scores of museums and historic sites. UNESCO has registered the buildings and ensembles of Classical Weimar on the list of World Heritage. Weimar also values its modern contributions. Bauhaus University Weimar, founded by Walter Gropius, revolutionized design and architecture. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come year after year to see these places.

The international exchange program with Bauhaus University Weimar (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) enables students to spend up to one year studying abroad in Weimar, Germany.  Located two hours from Berlin by train, Bauhaus offers courses in a variety of subjects including Architecture, Civil Engineering, Art and Design, and Media. Building on the robust tradition of the Bauhaus movement of the 20th century, the school has a long-standing reputation for supporting an eagerness to experiment, openness, creativity, a close link to industrial practice and an international perspective.
The University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Bauhaus University Weimar have a formal agreement outlining an exchange program for students and faculty. Students may attend classes and studio for one semester or one year abroad in Weimar while continuing to pay tuition at UB. Individual courses of study are developed by faculty advisors at both institutions. Fluency in German is not required, and an Intensive German language course for non-native speakers is available to all students participating in the program.  For programs taught in English, please visit the website.
Bauhaus University Weimar works closely with the student housing company Studentenwerk Thüringen (Student Services of Thuringia) to assist incoming exchange students with their accommodation needs.  Students can choose from various apartment-style residences.  For more information about the housing application process, please visit the Bauhaus University Weimar's housing information website.
