Program Description:

Chalmers University of Technology

Chalmers1     Chalmers2     Chalmers3
Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden, is the biggest port in the Nordic region. It is a city of bridges, hills, water, trams and seafood restaurants. With its 500,000 inhabitants, Gothenburg combines the safety and intimacy of the small town with the possibilities of the big city. Among the ten largest companies in the Gothenburg region are research-intensive industries like telecom giant Ericsson and Pharmaceutical corporation AstraZeneca. A cornerstone of the regional development is of course the automotive industry, led by Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks.

Chalmers University of Technology is one of Sweden’s largest and most highly acclaimed universities of technology. Chalmers has two large campuses in Gothenburg. The oldest and largest campus is in the city district of Johanneberg. This is where the students’ union building, some of the teaching and a great deal of the research is located. Those students taking architecture or engineering courses will take most of your classes at Campus Johanneberg.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
University at Buffalo senior Engineering students will take graduate level courses while at Chalmers, which are taught in English. Eligible Engineering majors include:
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
An academic year at Chalmers is divided into two semesters, where each semester consists of two study periods. A study period consists of seven to nine study weeks and ends with an examination period. Students who study at Chalmers for the fall semester will choose courses in Periods 1 & 2. Students who study at Chalmers for the spring semester will choose courses in Periods 3 & 4. To learn more about the break down of study periods, please view the academic calendar.
ACCOMMODATION
Chalmers has acquired a number of student rooms from the housing agency SGS, which are intended for international students. Priority is given to students who pay tuition fees or students from outside of Europe (not exchange students). Unfortunately, only a limited number of students can get one of these rooms, so Chalmers cannot guarantee accommodation solutions for all students. Although Chalmers doesn't have an accommodations office, they cooperate with  the City of Gothenburg's official housing agencies, Boplats Göteborg and Chalmers Studentbostäder, which assist students with housing. Please visit Chalmers' housing options website for more information.
